“…because there was no room for them at the inn.”

Imagine that wondrous night, so long, long ago. Imagine the bright star that lit up the darkness and led the way to Bethlehem.  Now, imagine Mary and Joseph, as they traveled baby step by baby step, making great strides toward the bright light that showed them the way.  When they finally arrived, they went from place to place and were told, “There is no room for you here”.  They finally found a cold, darkened stable, because they had nowhere else to go. 

 At Healthy Beginnings many of our patients have nowhere else to go.  They come to us pregnant and often in difficult situations.  Most are uninsured and scared.  We offer counseling, parenting classes and dietitian services to our patients, along with encouragement, kindness and prayer.  We step in immediately to begin early prenatal care.  Providing early prenatal care has proven to reduce the incidence of low birth weight.  Baby step by baby step, making great strides!

 Others come to us because they are considering abortion as a “cure” for their current circumstances.  We welcome these women, and pray for dear life as we minister to them through ultrasound technology.   They often feel the pregnancy is a problem, and abortion is the only way to “fix” it.  Pregnancy is not a disease therefore it cannot be “cured” or “fixed”.  It is a normal medical condition that requires medical care for both the mother and the growing infant.  We are talking about the life or death of a child; not a problem or a disease.  A choice like this should not be taken lightly.  We offer free ultrasounds to abortion vulnerable women.  We share the truth and provide the facts that empower women to make informed decisions.  Last year we provided free ultrasounds to more than 375 women who were considering abortion.  At least half of those mothers chose life for their babies, giving them the opportunity to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. Baby step by baby step, making great strides!

I like to think of Healthy Beginnings as a bright star in the dark night, a temporary place of shelter from the cold world.  A place for pregnant women to come, a place filled with love, encouragement and hope; a place for those who have nowhere else to go. No gift is too small or too large when it comes to ushering healthy babies into the world and saving the lives of the unborn.
